"THE FIRST LADIES PAVILION".....a collection of 44 of America's official hostesses of the White House, in miniature 1" to 1' scale by Galia Bazylko. The gowns are exact replicas of those displayed in the Smithsonian Institution in 1985, and the dolls themselves are portrait likenesses of the actual women taken from photos and paintings of the times. In many cases the fabric used in the costumes was painstakingly hand embroidered and/or hand painted to duplicate the look of the original fabrics.....Galia created this collection in the mid-1980's after seeing the actual full size gowns in the Smithsonian; in the late 80's it was sold to the Carole and Barry Kaye Museum of Miniatures in Los Angeles, and later became part of the collection of the Naples Museum of Art. The structure housing the Ladies was built by miniaturist Bill Lankford to echo the look of the White House. The dolls encompass the span of time from Martha Washington to Nancy Reagan. |
